FR – L’Institut d’Études Africaines (ISA) de l’Université de Bucarest a été créé en juillet 2017 et inauguré en septembre de la même année, à l’occasion de la Réunion annuelle du Réseau international des Chaires Senghor pour la Francophonie, accueillie cette année-là à Bucarest. Il est placé sous la présidence du recteur de l’Université de Bucarest et dirigé par un/e directeur/trice nommé/e par le recteur pour un mandat de quatre ans, renouvelable.
La direction est assurée depuis septembre 2017 par Mme Simona Corlan–Ioan, professeure à la Faculté d’Histoire de l’Université de Bucarest, ancienne ambassadrice de Roumanie au Sénégal, au Mali, en Mauritanie, en Guinée et au Burkina Faso (2006–2011), puis au Royaume du Maroc (2011–2016).
L’Institut a pour vocation de mettre une longue expérience diplomatique et académique au service de la connaissance de l’Afrique, dans le champ des sciences humaines et sociales, et d’en faire bénéficier les étudiants et les chercheurs de l’Université de Bucarest et de ses partenaires.
ENGL – The Institute of African Studies (ISA) of the University of Bucharest was established in July 2017 and inaugurated in September of the same year at the annual meeting of the International Network of Senghor Chairs for the Francophonie, hosted that year by the Romanian capital. The Institute is placed under the presidency of the Rector of the University of Bucharest and led by a director appointed by the Rector for a renewable four–year term.
The Institute has been directed since September 2017 by Prof. Simona Corlan–Ioan of the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest, who was formerly Romania’s ambassador to Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, and Burkina Faso (2006–2011), and to the Kingdom of Morocco (2011–2016).
The Institute’s vocation is to bring to bear a long–standing diplomatic and academic engagement with the African continent on research and teaching in the humanities and social sciences, for the benefit of students and researchers at the University of Bucharest and its partners.
OBJECTIFS
• la promotion des recherches multidisciplinaires sur l’Afrique ;
• l’organisation de programmes de master en partenariat avec les facultés de l’Université de Bucarest et avec des universités européennes et africaines partenaires ;
• l’organisation de séminaires, de conférences et d’expositions, en collaboration avec des chercheurs et des enseignants partageant les mêmes objectifs ;
• l’établissement de relations de coopération avec des institutions similaires, nationales et internationales ;
• la constitution d’une base de données documentaire (publications, travaux de recherche, bibliographies, périodiques et revues) ;
• la gestion d’une bibliothèque spécialisée.
L’Institut se conçoit également comme un centre d’animation culturelle, favorisant la diffusion des connaissances relatives au patrimoine africain, et comme un centre d’expertise au service des acteurs publics et privés s’intéressant à l’Afrique.
OBJECTIVES
• promoting multidisciplinary research on Africa;
• developing master’s programmes in partnership with the faculties of the University of Bucharest and with European and African partner universities;
• organising seminars, conferences and exhibitions with researchers and teachers sharing the same objectives;
• establishing cooperation with similar institutions, both national and international;
• building a documentary database (publications, research, bibliographies, periodicals and journals);
• maintaining a specialised library.
The Institute also serves as a cultural centre, fostering the dissemination of knowledge about African heritage, and as a centre of expertise for public and private actors with an interest in Africa.
CIVIS
L’Institut d’Études Africaines participe activement au réseau CIVIS, l’alliance des universités européennes dont l’Université de Bucarest est membre. Dans ce cadre, il a porté ou co–porté plusieurs projets de recherche et d’enseignement réunissant des universités européennes (Aix–Marseille, Université libre de Bruxelles, Athènes, Madrid, Rome, Glasgow) et leurs partenaires africains privilégiés (Université Hassan II de Casablanca, Université de Sfax, Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar). Un programme de master international en études africaines, conçu conjointement avec ces partenaires, est en cours d’élaboration.
CIVIS
The Institute of African Studies is actively engaged in CIVIS, the European university alliance of which the University of Bucharest is a member. Within CIVIS, it has led or co–led several research and teaching projects bringing together European universities (Aix–Marseille, Université libre de Bruxelles, Athens, Madrid, Rome, Glasgow) and their privileged African partners (Hassan II University of Casablanca, University of Sfax, Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar). An international master’s programme in African studies, developed jointly with these partners, is currently being designed.
