L’Institut d’Études Africaines conduit et coordonne, seul ou en partenariat, des projets de recherche, des colloques, des séminaires et des publications collectives dans les sciences humaines et sociales, autour de l’Afrique contemporaine et de ses circulations.

L’Institut structure son activité scientifique autour de cinq axes :

· Mobilités internationales d’étudiants et de diplômés : parcours, stratégies et pratiques.
· Patrimoine – héritage, transmission, patrimoine virtuel.
· Les crises multiples en Afrique francophone : le cas du patrimoine dans les pays de l’Afrique de l’Ouest après les coups d’État militaires.
· Langues et sciences humaines et sociales.
The Institute of African Studies leads and co-organises research projects, conferences, seminars and collective publications in the humanities and social sciences, focused on contemporary Africa and its global circulations.
Research axes

· Mobilités internationales d’étudiants et de diplômés : parcours, stratégies et pratiques (2023-2025) – projet mené avec l’Université de Iași, l’Université de Sofia, l’Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, l’EHESS-Paris, l’Université de Rabat et l’Université de Casablanca.
· Exposition virtuelle des objets africains conservés dans les musées roumains (en cours d’élaboration) – inventaire et mise en ligne des objets d’art africain présents dans les collections roumaines (musées d’histoire naturelle, d’ethnographie, d’histoire militaire et collections privées).
· Conceptualisation du patrimoine. Une approche multidisciplinaire (2022) – financement CIVIS, coordonné par Simona Corlan-Ioan, en coopération avec les universités CIVIS (Madrid, Rome, Athènes, Glasgow) et leurs partenaires africains (Hassan II Casablanca, Sfax, Cheikh Anta Diop Dakar).
· Les diasporas africaines en Europe (2022) – financement CIVIS, coordonné par Domnica Gorovei, dans le même cadre de coopération.
Un programme de master international en études africaines, dispensé en français et en anglais, est en cours d’élaboration avec les universités partenaires de l’alliance CIVIS (Aix-Marseille Université, Université libre de Bruxelles, Université de Sfax, Université Hassan II de Casablanca, Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar).
· Le patrimoine en crise (2024-2025) – CIVIS cooperation research project.
· Polycrise (2023-2025) – Jean Monnet project, CIVIS cooperation.
· International mobility of students and graduates: trajectories, strategies and practices (2023-2025) – conducted with the universities of Iași, Sofia, Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, EHESS-Paris, Rabat and Casablanca.
· Virtual exhibition of African objects held in Romanian museums (in preparation) – inventory and online presentation of African art in Romanian collections (natural-history, ethnographic and military-history museums, as well as private collections).
· Conceptualising heritage: a multidisciplinary approach (2022) – CIVIS-funded project coordinated by Simona Corlan-Ioan, in cooperation with the CIVIS universities (Madrid, Rome, Athens, Glasgow) and their African partners (Hassan II Casablanca, Sfax, Cheikh Anta Diop Dakar)
· African diasporas in Europe (2022) – CIVIS-funded project coordinated by Domnica Gorovei, within the same cooperation framework.
An international master’s programme in African studies, in French and English, is being designed jointly with partner universities of the CIVIS alliance (Aix-Marseille Université, Université libre de Bruxelles, University of Sfax, Hassan II University of Casablanca, Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar).
